Fully redesigned for 2019, Ross’ new Animas fly reel is their entry-level reel for freshwater anglers. With three models and two color options, this reel offers maximum performance AND hard-to-beat affordability. Ross improved the porting on the spool and frame, tweaked the drag system, and included a redesigned spool shape to tackle problems anglers face on the water. This is a user-based design with incredible durability and extreme functionality: the Ross way. Design Fully Redesigned Frame & Spool Geometry - Ross updated their already-incredible Animas design to feature new frame and spool geometry and a new-and-improved drag system. The porting on the spool and frame make the reel lighter while the bell-shaped spool design makes fighting fish easier and more efficient. The drag system is the same system as Ross’ high-end reels and features approximately 10 lbs of max drag. This reel got a facelift, and it’s looking pretty sweet. Finish Matte Black /Platinum Anodizing - These reels are finished in both Matte Black and Platinum colored anodized finish. The reels’ finish keeps them safe and durable on the water and when dropped or dinged. The finish is a larger reason the Animas reels are so durable and weather/wear-proof. Materials Machined Aluminum w/Two-Tone Accents - These reels are fully machined for increased durability. They also feature two-tone aluminum accents. The combination of aluminum machining, a phenolic canvas handle, and a durable drag system make this reel one of the most durable and affordable on the market. Drag Type - The Animas features a Sealed Composite-Disc Drag that makes fighting the largest freshwater fish easy and efficient. With over 10lbs of max drag, this drag design is one of the best in the industry. This drag system is similar to the drag in the old Animas Fly Reel but features some new elements for increased strength and a better seal. Materials - The materials used in this drag system include a Stainless Steel Interface, Carbon Fiber, and a Teflon-like material. Ross didn’t take any shortcuts in the engineering of this drag system and it shows on the water. Arbor Size Ultra-Large Arbor - The bell-shaped ultra-large arbor of the Animas increases line pickup and helps anglers fight the largest freshwater fish on a single-handed fly rod. The bell-shaped arbor design also helps with line management and the angler doesn’t have to worry about where his/her line lands on the reel when playing a fish.
